human skull - sketch tutorial by Griffinfly human skull - sketch tutorial by Griffinfly
the TUTORIAL section of my gallery ---> griffinfly.deviantart.com/gall…
____________________

This is a pack of materials I did for my student. I decided to share it with the rest of the world for the good karma's sake.
The tutorial covers basic approach to sketch a human skull and a few most general construction features which help to draw the skull correctly from any angle.
The .zip includes:
- a few example references of human skull (2d shots taken from a rather good 3d model I found in Google SketchUp Warehouse)
- a few files with visual notes
- two step by step sketching tutorials of the skull, based on said references. One of them is a .psd file with my notes.
This should be helpful for those who just start to study human anatomy and can't afford taking classes or buying plaster casts.
Probably it's much less of a help without teacher's explanations, but anyway .. those who want to learn will absorb the idea.

hit DOWNLOAD to the top-right of the preview to get the archive!
Comments, suggestions, crits and questions are warmly welcome.
- cheers

Great resource. Ofcourse I agree to you that it is nice to have a teacher, but someone who really wants to learn will be able to take a lot of information out of this!

really good reference! I certainly like the one where you showed the light compared to the colored cube. I might do a similar method in a future tutorial about shading and values.

Finally, something useful in the tutorials category. I'm not exactly a beginner, but i never found an easy and "clean" way for skull/face construction and shape defining; which until now has resulted in a lot of erasing and re-drawing, especially when it had to do with the placement of the eyes and the size of the back of the skull. Thank you for sharing, i'll certainly practice with this method!:)

Art teaching is my hobby, and my students are amateur artists as well. Nothing too serious.

...Still. To think that I'm watching/friended an art-major, dunno how to feel about it, probably poke u to give me critique on my own faults to brush up on. Not to mention, you'd have a D.A. account like say Adam Warren and other pro's who work in the biz. Why are you not making any money off this by doing tons of commissions?

Awesome! And I love the little PERSP! note lol, its true, perspective adds so much. ^.^ I find the biggest thing is usually the back of the skull...ppl forget that the brain needs a place to rest too.

aye, mistakes with perspective and the back of the head are among the most frequent, as I noticed.
